Picture this ā€“ the quaint coastal charm of Shoreham-by-Sea sets the stage for a peculiar yet fascinating automotive gathering, the 'Heretics' event by Heritage Parts Centre. "By enthusiasts, for enthusiasts," a motto that's more than just wordsā€”it's the heartbeat of a community that understands the art of struggling, saving, and spending endless hours pursuing dreams. In this delightful narrative, we delve into how we (mike b designs) became the documenters in this peculiar petrolhead pilgrimage.

Behind the scenes - mike b designs

Entrusted with capturing the essence of 'Heretics,' we approached the project with a dual hatā€”videographers and composers. The presence of a live DJ at an automotive event presented a unique challenge. The team undertook the task of replacing the event's audio soundtrack, meticulously curating a custom symphony of engines and bustle, revā€™s, pops and occasional purrs. This endeavor wasn't just about creating a visual experience; it was an auditory adventure crafted for an audience finely attuned to distinguishing an original engine sound from a Type 25 VW Camper van from one that had an aftermarket fuel pump.

In the forecourt featuring pallets, bins, rusty wire fences, and unsightly walls, angles were essentail. Every shot needing to either draw the audience in to detail of the subject or create a juxtapostion; the sublime against the mundane.

Technical Considerations:

  1. Audio Alchemy: In a world where live DJ beats meet revving engines, the audio replacement becomes a game in itself, we love sharing the videos we make with the owners of the cars involved, matching cars to noises the owners resonate with is essential (someone has spent a lot of time making it sound like that!). Crafting a bespoke sound bank, we made sure each car not only looked good but sounded the part.

  2. Visual Ingenuity: Navigating through a landscape of functional necessity, shots that didn't just capture cars; they encapsulated the irrational beauty that makes one car Ā£25,000 more expensive than another.

  3. Logistical Ballet: Picture a flock of carsā€”arriving and disappearing in a continuous waltz of combustion and creativity. With eyes and ears attuned to every automotive movement, capturing the breadth of automotive expression was a workout.

  4. Communication Charm: It's not just about cameras; it's about conversations. mike b designs didn't just capture cars; they engaged with the eccentrics behind the wheel. Engaging with enthusiasts, unraveling stories, and embracing that real value lies in the intangibles.

As local videographers, and automotive enthusiasts we love to capture 'Heretics' in action. From classic VW Beetles to sleek Porsches, we got it all on film.
